For the second in the brochure series, Rennard Milner has created a split level site-specific installation.
Run, Rabbit looks at the interplay between what he sees as our culture of self-proclaimed experience / post-ideological reflexivity and the denigration of discursive theoretical thinking. It speaks of how this interplay may bring about a disengaged emotional and tangible attitude towards the world and the quotidian lived event, or indeed bring about the opposite.
The treachery of the romantic image proves a recurring theme in Milner’s work, yet on closer inspection this leads to more complex conclusions. In this case, sculptural values are undermined with seemingly whimsical nonchalance, creating a more modern, knowing romance; one that is tragic as oppose to ironic.
Run, Rabbit is a rebellious, transgressive work. The floor platform is still real, man’s hand on nature is still present, but dispersed, distilled, composed.
