John Walter lives and works in London. He graduated with an MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2003. In 2006, he was awarded the Sainsbury Scholarship and was resident at The British School at Rome (2006-2008).
Walter transposes the structure of his imagination into the real world; his work is a channeling of social anthropology and psychoanalysis; investigating in either direction the macrocosm of the world outside and the microcosm of his internal world. His work is a dissection of the self, revealing both narcissist and Everyman. It draws reference from both high and low culture filtering them and synthesizing them into Walter’s very consistent ‘Maximilist’ aesthetic.
